Warped Space
Presented at Scânteia+ as part of The Image Left Reality Behind, this installation builds on the wider Warped Space project, expanding it through a new group of photographic objects produced specifically for the exhibition.
Warped Space examines how images of the city are shaped by the same processes that transform the city itself. Emerging from an interest in redevelopment, construction and changing patterns of urban use, the project follows buildings, infrastructures and industrial remnants as they are altered, displaced or absorbed into new spatial orders.
Photographs are printed directly onto aluminium, then cut, folded and distorted. The sculptural forms draw from architectures encountered during fieldwork, as well as the geometries of postwar modernism, Brutalism and socialist monumental architecture. Façades, structural planes and monumental forms migrate from the photographed site into the object itself.
In Warped Space, image and built environment begin to collapse into one another. The photograph becomes less a record of urban transformation than a material subjected to it: fractured, reorganised and pushed into space as the city remains in continual transformation.
